Advertisment
The Modern Sheds & Garages website featured an image of the island of Ireland and stated “Free Delivery Nationwide”.
Complaint
The complainant, on enquiring, was advised that delivery to Cork would cost €100. The complainant therefore considered the free delivery claim to be misleading.
Response
The advertisers stated that the information on their website regarding free delivery was incorrect and should have been updated. They stated that they had offered free delivery during a time when their garages were more expensive. They had since changed their policy and had reduced the price of their garages and no longer offer free delivery. They stated that their delivery charge was now from €20, depending on the distance from their premises to the customer. They stated that this information is included in their advertising on third party websites. They also stated that when they speak to a customer they ensure that they are aware of their delivery charge and they apologised for any misunderstanding in this case.
Conclusion
Complaint Upheld.
The Complaints Committee considered the detail of the complaint and the advertisers’ response. The Committee noted that the advertisers had amended their website after receiving correspondence from the ASAI. They noted also the advertisers’ acknowledgement that the free offer had remained on their website after it was no longer valid and considered that this was a breach of Section 2.24 of the Code.
Action Required:
In view of the fact that the advertising had been amended, no further action was required.
